Final IndyCar Results, Points after Nashville: Colton Herta Claims First Oval Win, Second in Standings

Colton Herta Dominates at Nashville to Secure Second Place in Standings

Colton Herta of Andretti Autosport held off a hard-charging Josef Newgarden to win the inaugural Big Machine Music City Grand Prix on the streets of Nashville. The 21-year-old American led 66 of the 80 laps in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda to earn his second victory of the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season and move into second place in the championship standings.

Nashville Race Recap: Herta's Strategy and Overtaking Prowess Lead to Victory

Herta started the race from the pole position and controlled the pace early on, leading the first 23 laps. Newgarden, who started third, stayed close behind Herta and took the lead on lap 24. However, Herta retook the lead on lap 33 and held on until his first pit stop on lap 43. During the pit stops, Herta's crew executed a perfect pit stop to give him the advantage over Newgarden. Herta emerged from the pits just ahead of Newgarden and maintained his lead for the rest of the race.

Championship Standings: Herta Moves into Second, Palou Still Leads

With his victory in Nashville, Herta has moved into second place in the championship standings with 275 points. He is now just 10 points behind series leader Alex Palou, who finished fourth in Nashville. Other drivers in the top five include Josef Newgarden (267 points), Scott McLaughlin (263 points), and Pato O'Ward (253 points).
