Tight Contest Sets Up Second Leg

Southampton and West Brom played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final on Friday night. The match was a tight and tense affair, with few clear-cut chances for either side. Southampton made two changes from the first leg, with Ryan Fraser and David Brooks coming in. West Brom made no changes to their starting lineup. In the first half, Southampton had the better of the chances. They forced West Brom goalkeeper David Button into a couple of good saves, but they could not find the breakthrough. West Brom also had a couple of chances, but they could not find the target. The second half was a more even affair, with both sides having chances to win the game. West Brom came close to scoring in the 80th minute, but Semi Ajayi's header was saved by Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. In the end, both sides had to settle for a draw. The second leg of the semi-final will be played at St Mary's Stadium on Monday night.
