Lando Norris Clinches Pole Position

Lando Norris put in a blistering performance to clinch pole position for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver set a time of 1:16.650, just 0.062 seconds ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Norris' Dominant Run

Norris was in control from the start of qualifying, topping the timesheets in all three sessions. He gradually improved his lap time throughout the session, eventually setting his fastest time on his final lap. Verstappen was unable to match Norris' pace, despite improving his time on his final attempt. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. finished third, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Norris' pole position is his second of the season, after he took the top spot in the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this year. It also marks McLaren's first pole position since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

Verstappen's Late Charge

Verstappen was unable to challenge Norris for pole position, but he did put in a strong performance to qualify second. The Red Bull driver improved his time by over half a second on his final lap, but it was not enough to deny Norris the top spot.

Verstappen will be disappointed not to have taken pole position, but he will be confident of challenging for victory on Sunday. The Dutch driver has won the last two races in Hungary and will be looking to continue his winning streak.

Sainz's Solid Performance

Sainz Jr. put in a solid performance to qualify third for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver was consistently in the top three throughout qualifying and was unable to match the pace of Norris and Verstappen. However, he will be pleased to have outqualified his teammate, Charles Leclerc, who finished sixth.

Russell and Hamilton Struggling

Russell and Hamilton struggled to match the pace of the frontrunners in qualifying. Russell qualified fourth, ahead of Hamilton in fifth. Both Mercedes drivers were over half a second slower than Norris and will be disappointed with their performance.

The Hungarian Grand Prix is set to be an exciting race, with Norris, Verstappen, and Sainz Jr. all looking to take the victory. Russell and Hamilton will need to improve their pace if they want to challenge for a podium finish.
