Israel-Gaza Conflict: UNICEF Reports on Humanitarian Crisis
Mass Casualties Among Children in Rafah
UNICEF has issued a dire warning about the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where a military besiegement has left 600,000 children without means of escape. According to UNICEF, the situation is particularly dire in Rafah, where over 100,000 children are reportedly injured, ill, malnourished, traumatized, or living with a disability.
Graphic Evidence of Casualties
Disturbing images have emerged from Rafah, indicating a high number of civilian casualties, including children. Eyewitness accounts describe seeing charred bodies and a child with no head, allegedly the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp. UNICEF says that these reports of civilian deaths and injuries are "unconscionable" and that "children should never be the targets of violence."
