Andy Cole: 25 Years Since He Delighted the Toon Army

A Prolific Marksman

This month marks a quarter of a century since Andy Cole first pulled on the famous black and white stripes. Signed from Bristol City for a then club record £1.75 million, Cole would go on to form a devastating partnership with Peter Beardsley. In his first full season at St. James' Park, Cole netted 34 goals in all competitions, including a memorable hat-trick against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

A Club Record

Cole's goalscoring exploits continued throughout his time at Newcastle, and he eventually left the club in 1995 as their all-time top scorer, a record which still stands today. He would go on to enjoy further success at Manchester United, where he won five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Cole's contribution to Newcastle United was immense, and he remains a firm favourite with the Toon Army. His goalscoring prowess helped to establish the club as a force in English football, and he played a key role in their success during the early 1990s.
